Welcome
A little about us
Hi, I'm Jan. My husband is the one who first suggested we breed — I'd fallen completely in love with my first Yorkie years before that, and he could see it. Twelve years later these dogs are still the best part of my day.
Our puppies are raised right here in our home, not in a kennel building. They're handled constantly, and our four grandchildren are here often, so they grow up already used to small hands, noise and the ordinary chaos of a family. That's the whole point — a puppy who arrives at your house already knowing that people are good.

The breed
Why people fall for Yorkies
A Yorkie is a very large dog in a very small package. They're bright, funny, stubborn in the best way, and they bond hard — most Yorkie people will tell you their dog picked a person and never really let go.
Their coat is fine and silky rather than fluffy, so it sheds very little, and they're small enough to go almost anywhere with you. They do need you around; this is not a breed that's content to be left alone all day.

Questions we get a lot
Where are you located?
We're in Billings, MT. Families are welcome to arrange a visit, and I'm happy to talk through travel or delivery for families further afield.
What colours of Yorkies do you raise?
We raise traditional, parti, chocolate, KB black, blonde and merle Yorkies. Colour varies litter to litter — the puppies page always shows what's here now.
Do your puppies come vet checked and health guaranteed?
Every puppy is vet checked and has their first vaccines before going home, and each one carries a one-year written guarantee against life-threatening congenital defects.
How do I reserve a Big Sky Yorkies puppy?
Send the puppy application, then we'll talk. A holding fee reserves your puppy until homecoming day.
How much do your Yorkie puppies cost?
Pricing depends on the litter, so reach out by phone or the puppy application for current puppies and prices. You can call Jan directly at 406-860-0239.
Can I get a puppy if I don't live in Montana?
Yes — we place puppies with families well beyond Billings. We'll talk through safe travel or delivery options together so your puppy gets home comfortably.
How big do Yorkshire Terriers get?
Yorkshire Terriers are a toy breed and most mature between about four and seven pounds. Adult size varies by pup and by the parents behind each litter.
Are your puppies good with children and other pets?
Our puppies are raised right in our home alongside our grandchildren, so they meet people, everyday sounds and family life from the start. That early socialisation helps them settle into a busy household.
When can my puppy come home?
Your puppy goes home once it is fully weaned, vet checked and has had its first set of vaccines. Until then a holding fee keeps your chosen puppy reserved for you.
What comes home with my puppy?
Your puppy leaves vet checked, up to date on its first vaccines, and with everything you need to settle it in those first days. You'll also have the written one-year health guarantee in hand.
Can I visit before choosing a puppy?
Yes — families are welcome to arrange a visit to meet us and the puppies here in Billings, MT. Just reach out and we'll set up a time.
What makes Big Sky Yorkies different?
Big Sky Yorkies is Jan Hefner's home program in Billings, MT, raising Yorkshire Terriers for more than twelve years. Every puppy is born and raised in our home, never a kennel.
